Undesignated gifts help provide for urgent needs

Your legacy is not only tied to how you live your life, but also to the lasting impact your life makes on others. Many people choose to leave a charitable gift in their will to make sure their legacy helps to make the world a better place.

When a donor leaves UHN Foundation an “undesignated” gift in their will, a gift without conditions on how the donation may be used, they do so knowing that their gift will fund high-priority needs in the future. The COVID-19 pandemic is a prime example of an urgent funding need for the hospital and how an unexpected emergency can arise in an instant.

There were many urgent needs in the early days of the pandemic, and because of gifts left in wills, UHN was able to move quickly and access funding to ensure the safety of our patients and staff during a very challenging time.

This included purchasing critical personal protective equipment, including 350,000 masks for patients and staff, to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the hospital and community. UHN also launched early research projects, such as the COVID-19 Biobank which collected more than 6,000 specimens to help us understand how the COVID-19 virus progresses over time and what treatments may be effective. This is a small snapshot of the support our legacy donors helped to provide.

Together, we turned hope into action – and legacy gifts into lives saved. Thank you to all our supporters who have remembered UHN in your estate plans, and for putting your trust in UHN Foundation to be good stewards of your legacy. It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.

Leaving a gift in your will is easier than you might think. The promise of a healthier world for future generations starts with you.
