The relationship between housing and health is undeniable. The lack of housing in Toronto is fuelling a health crisis.
Thanks to the steadfast support of our generous donors, UHN is leading the way with innovative solutions. Together, we’re addressing our community’s pressing need for stable housing and integrated health care services.
In 2024, UHN opened Dunn House with the aim of improving health outcomes, reducing Emergency Department visits and avoiding hospital readmissions.
Canada’s first-ever hospital-led supportive housing initiative, Dunn House provides accessible, safe and affordable housing for socially and medically complex individuals who are frequent users of hospital services.
The four-storey Parkdale building is home to 51 men, women, Indigenous Peoples and people with disabilities who were previously unhoused.
Now, your generous support is helping reach more vulnerable Torontonians, faster. Through incredible donor support, we’re expanding the Dunn House model with a novel approach.

Building on the program donors helped create, UHN is applying the Dunn House model – without the long wait time of building another new site – by offering social medicine support in existing homes across the city, like public housing units and available rental homes.
The expansion will extend health and social services to up to 100 previously unhoused individuals in the coming year.
Together, we’re providing safe, permanent, accessible and affordable housing to even more of UHN’s most medically and socially complex patients.
UHNITED, we’re pursuing new ways to make a lasting impact on the health of our community.
