The Al & Malka Green Artists’ Health Centre at UHN supports artists in our community by providing them with a comprehensive approach to prevention, care and research in a fully integrated setting. It is the only such clinic in Canada focused on providing care for artists of all disciplines. Practitioners at the Centre focus on the specific healthcare issues common to those in the arts – including muscle, bone and joint injuries, and psychological concerns – providing a holistic approach to care. Artists and healthcare providers work in partnership to identify and address the healthcare needs of each individual. The knowledge developed by our expert teams at the Centre benefits artists throughout the GTA, across Canada and internationally.

The Driscoll Family Digestive Health Centre at UHN provides care to patients with a range of common, rare and complex digestive problems such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, stomach ulcers, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, functional and motility disorders, intestinal failure and gastrointestinal cancers, among others. In UHN’s Department of Medicine, physicians within the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) are specialists that treat patients with multiple, complex health conditions – otherwise known as complex medical care. The Division represents approximately 30 per cent of all the inpatient beds at Toronto General and Toronto Western hospitals. The GIM team includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, physiotherapists, dieticians and others. At any one time, the GIM teams care for approximately 220 hospitalized patients, who are admitted around the clock, 365 days a year.

UHN’s Toronto Western Hospital was among the first hospitals in Canada to offer comprehensive and specialized geriatric services. Since then, the Division of Geriatrics has expanded to provide a comprehensive range of geriatric services across all of UHN’s four hospital sites. The Division’s primary goal is to provide expert consultations to older patients hospitalized at UHN to help them recover more quickly and improve their overall chances of going home. While providing exemplary in-hospital care, the team has also developed approaches to better manage the challenges that can lead to older adults being hospitalized in the first place, helping them to avoid hospital visits altogether.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of genetic disorders characterized by abnormal formation of collagen that results in weak joints that dislocate easily, stretchy fragile skin, organ damage and significant pain. The first of its kind in Canada, the The GoodHope Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Clinic at Toronto General Hospital offers patients co-ordinated care from a wide spectrum of specialists, and is a single point of contact for those living with this illness. UHN’s Blood Disorders Program provides specialized care to patients with complex, non-cancerous diseases of the blood, and is a major supporting program to cardiac, cancer and transplant patients who develop blood abnormalities. It is home to Canada’s largest thrombosis clinic, managing life-threatening blood clots, as well as North America’s largest comprehensive sickle cell and thalassemia clinics and apheresis programs. Patient care within the Division of Nephrology encompasses the spectrum of kidney disease, from diagnosis and pre-dialysis care, through to a variety of dialysis methods (including home dialysis), intensive care management, transplantation and – if required – renal palliative care. This is accomplished through a strong interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, managers, dietitians, social workers, renal and vascular access coordinators, physiotherapists, pharmacists and chaplains. The Division’s active clinical research programs are dedicated to finding better ways to prevent and treat kidney disease.
