Funded by UHN Foundation and The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, the program is designed to complement existing opportunities from the University of Toronto and the Canadian government. (Logo: UHN StRIDe Team)
The armed conflict in Ukraine continues to disrupt the lives of millions of Ukrainian citizens– many of whom are seeking asylum and relocating to Canada. To help the Ukrainian research community, UHN has launched a comprehensive assistance program in collaboration with University of Toronto (UofT) and the federal government to support Ukrainian postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, exchange students and visiting scientists displaced by the war.
The Stand with Ukraine Program
With support from UHN Foundation and The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, the “Stand with Ukraine” assistance program will provide up to two years of financial support for Ukrainian research trainees and scientists.
The funds will support salaries for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists in UHN labs. As many of these displaced trainees will be women and their families, funding will also provide support for daycare, travel costs and other resources to help ensure the transition to work is as easy as possible. Trainees will be selected through an application process and a screening committee will help determine how to best align the applicants to research areas across UHN.
The program is designed to complement financial support from the federal government including the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
Applications are accepted until Nov. 30, 2022. Please visit the Stand with Ukraine website for more information on how to apply, eligibility criteria, and other details about the program.
