Confessions of a walker

Participants cross the finish line at We Walk UHNITED and hug to celebrate.

Some people walk to stay healthy.

Some do it for the mental clarity.

For others, a daily walk starts with a wagging tail at the door.

But at University Health Network (UHN), we walk for something more.

We walk because every step can help transform health care.

We Walk UHNITED presented by Rogers isn’t just a walk — it’s a movement. It’s a chance for our community to come together, step by step, and have fun in support of the groundbreaking research and innovation.

Walking for patients and possibility

Every day, UHN staff see what strong programs and the right support can do. People learn to move again. They build confidence. They gain independence.

Take Vanessa Ong, a physiotherapist at Toronto Rehab. She works with patients as they take steps toward recovery — sometimes literally. She sees how UHN programs help people get stronger and more confident every single day. That’s why she’s walking in We Walk UHNITED — to support the teams, tools and therapies that help patients move forward.

The Power of moving together

When we walk together, something special happens. There’s hope. There’s energy. And there’s a feeling that you’re part of something bigger than yourself.

That’s what brings Natalie Madramootoo, Clinical Operations Manager at UHN, back again this year. For her, We Walk UHNITED is a way to support patients and colleagues, and to help make sure great care continues — today and into the future.

Walking for second chances

For some people, walking means celebrating life itself.

Rita Spiteri knows this well. After receiving a heart transplant, she was given a second chance. Now, she walks to support others going through the same journey. She also walks for the next generation — so they can have the care and support they need, too.

So, why do you walk?

Every step taken at We Walk UHNITED helps power breakthroughs in health care — from advancing AI-driven surgery and robot-assisted procedures to transforming organ transplantation, reimagining seniors’ emergency care and supporting innovative housing solutions for vulnerable populations.

Join us on Saturday, May 30, 2026, and walk for the future. Walk in support of those who can’t.
